Foundation fundraising can feel confusing or opaque, with many courses and consultants giving advice that’s not always helpful: it’s all about who you know. But there are ways for organizations doing good work to get their foot in the door and foundation fundraising is often straightforward once you know how it works.

The Foundation Fundraising Seminar is a beginner-mid-level course to help organizations break in and access institutional funding. Learn how to write a grant, build relationships with funders, prospect for new funding, and more.

  • This course has 5 live-taught modules.

    1) Understanding foundation fundraising: the rules of the game

    2) Grant writing with and without application templates

    3) Finding new funding

    4) Building relationships with funders

    5) The art of the grant report

  • This course has three clear outcomes:

    1) Participants feel confident in their ability to write grants and grant reports.

    2) Participants are able to prospect for foundation funding.

    3) Participants understand how to build relationships with new funders, whether or not they have a warm introduction.

  • 1) Anyone who is new to writing grants.

    2) Organizations looking to grow their institutional fundraising.

    3) Fundraisers who feel stuck and unable to make in roads with funders.

    4) Anyone new to foundation prospecting.

  • Kirstie helps organizations with very narrow paths to funding (explicitly socialist organizations, abolitionist organizations, or Jewish organizations that stand up against apartheid, as examples) find foundations that will fund them. One of her specialities at Build Power Strategies is grant prospecting, which is taught in this course.

She also helps very small organizations get their first grants and teaches introductory grantwriting to organizations looking to message about the work they do for the first time.

  • We are offering two scholarships for this course.

For more information on our scholarships, visit out scholarship page.

  • We ask about access in all of our sign-up forms. We can accommodate most needs (needing slides ahead of time, needing slides a certain size, needing alt text, etc). We also can accommodate closed captioning.

Other access needs like needing your camera off, needing breaks, not going into break out rooms, being told activities ahead of time, we can accommodate as well. If you’re not sure, reach out to info@thefundraisingschool.com. We do our best to accommodate every access need we can.

Grant prospecting and grant writing training for our movement.
